Description

Tetramorium immigrans, also known as the pavement ant, is a common species in North America, especially in urban environments. Despite their small size, these ants are very voracious and create a lot of activity within the colony. They form dense colonies and can be polygynous (multiple queens). They grow quickly and are ideal for both beginner and experienced ant keepers.

Breeding Conditions

  • Colony Size: From a few dozen to several thousand workers.

  • Colony Type: Monogynous or polygynous.

  • Development: Rapid growth, first worker in 3 to 6 weeks after founding.

Feeding

  • 🍯 Sugar: Sugary liquids (diluted honey, sweet water, maple syrup).

  • 🐜 Proteins: Small insects (flies, mealworms, small pieces of crickets).

  • 💡 Tip: Their appetite is voracious, so feel free to provide a variety of food sources to support the colony's rapid growth.

Environmental Conditions

  • 🌡 Ideal Temperature: 22-28°C

  • 💦 Humidity: Medium to low (40-60%), with a drier foraging area.

  • 🏠 Recommended Nest: A spacious and well-suited nest for the colony's growth is advised.

Diapause

  • Period: From November to February (optional but recommended).

  • 🌡 Temperature: 10-15°C.

  • Duration: 1 to 2 months.

Tip: Diapause helps with the colony's health but can be adjusted based on the breeding conditions.

Particularities

✔ Very voracious and active, bringing a lot of dynamism to your colony despite their small size.

✔ Populous colonies with rapid growth and responsiveness to external stimuli.
